NHS Vouchers for spectacles or contact lenses
NHS Voucher Information
In the UK, NHS Vouchers are issued to those patients who require a change in prescription,
or whose spectacles (in the case of adults spectacles must be aged 2 years or over)
are unserviceable due to fair wear and tear. : -
- Aged under 19 and in full time education
- Aged under 16 years
- Receive INCOME SUPPORT
- Receive PENSION CREDIT GUARANTEE CREDIT
- Have a valid NHS TAX CREDIT EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE
- Receive INCOME-BASED JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE
- Have a valid exemption form HC2
- Have been prescribed complex lenses (reduced value voucher)
*Evidence is required of your eligibility to receive help towards the cost of your
spectacles or contact lenses, although at present production of evidence is not
mandatory, we do strongly advise patients wherever possible to produce evidence
to avoid errors in, or inaccurate claims.
Voucher Value
The value of the voucher is determined by the strength and type of lenses prescribed
and start at £34.60
If you have form HC3 you may be entitled to a reduced value voucher.
If you do not meet the above requirements, but cannot afford the cost of spectacles,
then you may apply on form HC1 to the Social Security office, which may be able
to help if you are entitled to help with the costs.
If your are entitled
If you are entitled to an NHS Voucher, Walters Opticians carry a range of budget
frames which can be supplied free of charge including standard single vision or
standard bifocal lenses. Alternatively you can use your voucher to help towards
the cost of any other spectacles of your choice.
